Who we are
My name is Arthur Jones. I was born in England where I lived until the early 1980s when I moved to Wales. I am a precision engineer and I have worked in the field of horology for the past thirty years. I am an accredited member of the British Horological Institute. In 1984 I set up the firm of Jones & Chambault. This small family business was, at the time, primarily concerned with the manufacture of wheels and pinions for professional and amateur clock and watch repairers and restorers.
As demand grew, so did our manufacturing capability. As a fully qualified and experienced precision engineer I was able to manufacture parts difficult or impossible to find elsewhere. I extended my workshop so that by the 1990s it was equipped with six lathes, three automatic wheel and pinion cutting machines, a vertical milling machine and other precision drilling and bushing equipment. The high quality of my work served to establish my reputation. Jones & Chambault became known in Britain and abroad for the excellence of its products and the friendliness of its service.
Besides manufacturing clock and watch parts, I design and make new movements and carry out extensive restoration work. An overall view of this aspect of my work can be seen on New clocks and Restoration.
I have recently moved to Belgium for personal and family reasons. At the age of 59 I am far from thinking of retiring. My life long passion for clock mechanisms is still with me. With the experience I have acquired over the years, my state of the art new workshop and my many contacts in the field of horology I am looking forward to undertaking yet more challenging work. I also aim to continue producing wheels and pinions for the international market of repairers and restorers, many of whom cannnot find the parts they need in their own country.
With my French wife Jacqueline, who works as my secretary and translator, I hope to continue to serve my many long term customers as I have in the past. I also look forward to offering my sevices to new cusomers.
